News orgs seek Colorado shooting records in court

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — News media organizations will go before a judge to seek access to court documents in the Colorado theater shooting case.

The news organizations are also asking the judge to scale back a sweeping gag order that bars the University of Colorado from releasing details about the alleged shooter. James Holmes is a former student.

Chief District Judge William Sylvester will preside over the hearing Thursday.

The 24-year-old Holmes is charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in the shooting during a midnight showing of the latest Batman movie.

The July 20 shooting left 12 people dead and injured 58 others at a movie theater in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

Court officials say Holmes is expected to attend the hearing.
