Hunter education in Iowa must consist of at least 10 hours of training. Topics which are a ‘must’ include hunting laws, ethics and survival/first aid. In this photo Luke Webinger, a DNR officer, is teaching a new class of students about game laws. Loren Zaruba, chief (with his wife, Ellen) instructor of youth hunter education in Clinton County, said 10 to 20 percent of most classes consists of girls or young women, or mothers attending with their sons or daughters to have a better understanding of safe handling of firearms that may be in the home.
