CLINTON — Harry Herbert Graff, adored dad, incredible grandpa, cherished brother and caring uncle was called home to God’s kingdom on a somber afternoon on November 30, 2009, in Frisco, Texas, after many long and courageous battles. Visitation will be Friday, December 4th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Drive, and the funeral will be Saturday, December 5th, at 2:00 p.m. at Community Reformed Church in Clinton, IA.
Harry H. Graff was born in McPherson County, South Dakota, to Gottlieb and Hulda Graff on August 27, 1929. He grew up there and attended local farm schools in rural areas of South Dakota. He answered his call to serve our country and enlisted in the Marines from Dec. 1951 to Dec. 1953, at the time of the Korean War. He married Florence Schauer in June 1955. Harry and Florence’s union brought 6 children into their lives. After farming for 15 years, they moved to Iowa to begin a new chapter in their lives. There he shared a home with his beloved wife of 51 years, for the majority of their marriage. Florence went into extended nursing care, when her health deteriorated too greatly for her husband to care for her in July 2003. Harry continued to live a full life, traveling and visiting friends and family.
Harry’s hobbies included woodworking, fishing, traveling and the challenge of casino games. His passion was his family. Harry’s enthusiasm for his grandchildren was awe inspiring, as he didn’t miss a milestone in their lives, from birthdays to graduations and smaller feats in between. Harry worked at a company he truly enjoyed, Ralston Purina, and retired in 1991. He made many faithful friends throughout his life and considered himself truly blessed for having known them.
Harry is survived by his children Cindy Graff, of DeSoto, TX, Susan (Perry) Lind, Camanche, IA, Bonnie (Eric) Clausen, Preston, IA, Clyde (Jamie) Graff of Clinton, IA, and Kristi (Scott) Fisher of Prosper, TX. His granddaughters include: Hollie Lind, Melissa Clausen, Kimberly Robinson, Courtney Atkinson, Jordan and Sydney Fisher. His grandsons include Daniel Lind, Riley and Reid Fisher. Additionally he had 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, and a great-grandson.
