CLINTON — Wilfred E. McDonald, 86, of Clinton, Iowa, died Wednesday at his home. Private services will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Public visitation will be Saturday, December 12, 2009, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home.
Wilfred was born January 12, 1923, in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Earl H. and Catherine (Lausen) McDonald. He was a 1942 Clinton High School graduate. Wilfred was a WWII United States Navy veteran.
Wilfred owned and operated Town and Country Real Estate from 1958 to 1992 when he retired.
He was a member of the Moose and AMVETS, was past president of the Clinton Board of Realtors, was a member of the Clinton, state and national Board of Realtors, was a certified “master senior appraiser” with the National Association of Master Appraisers, was assistant chief of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Patrol, was a court attendant for the 7th Judicial, Iowa District Court, was director of the Clinton-Jackson Community Action Program, was Clinton County director of Iowa East Central T.R.A.I.N., he was director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, was a charter member of Clinton Riverboat Days, was the 1965 Riverboat Days commodore and 2009 Riverboat Days Parade grand marshal, he was a former vice president of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, was chairman of the committee that found, bought and brought the City of Clinton Showboat to Clinton, was very active in fighting the flood of 1965 and helped establish Fort Johannsen, which is in Riverview Park.
Survivors include his daughters, Kay Lynn (Gene) Scott and Mary Jo (Ron) Jacobsen both of Clinton; son, Tim (Jill) McDonald of Clinton; his constant companion and partner Jane Munksgaard of Clinton; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Sidney McDonald of Clinton; and sister, Marion Holcomb of DeSota, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, a brother and an infant daughter.
