Gerhardt P. Scheeper

CALAMUS — Gerhardt P. Scheeper, 79, Calamus, died Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.

Gerhardt Paul Scheeper was born February 24, 1930, in Lowden, to William and Martha (Kruckenberg) Scheeper. He graduated from Lowden High School in 1947. From 1951 until 1955, Gerry served in the Navy. He farmed at rural Lowden with his brother, George, for many years. Gerhardt married Marilyn Paarmann Green, July 16, 1977, and they made their home at rural Calamus.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lowden, and served as an usher. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed raising and showing cattle. Gerry was an animal lover especially of German shepherds and cats.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; stepdaughters, Beth Lippens and her husband, Jeff, Grand Mound, Sue Hunter and her husband, Charley, DeWitt, and Sheila Stumpf and her husband, Kevin, Fort Dodge; eight grandchildren; a brother, LeRoy Scheeper and his wife, Vera, Kanawha; a sister-in-law, Gladys Scheeper, Wheatland; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gerhardt in death were his parents; brothers, John, Edgar, Oscar and George; and a sister, Olga Kohnert.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday (Today), December 14, 2009. A service of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Lowden, with the Rev. Victor Young officiating. Burial and military rites will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Lowden, or the American Cancer Society.

Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Jeff Lippens, Charley Hunter and Kevin Stumpf; and grandsons, Brad Lippens, Jacob Hunter and Josh Stumpf. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Brooke Lippens, Will Hunter, Alexandra Hunter, Justin Stumpf and Cassie Stumpf.
