Janet Kay Ryder

PARKERSBURG, Pa. — Janet Kay Ryder, 55, of Parkersburg, was taken to heaven December 20, 2009, after a valiant two-year fight against liver cancer.

Jan was born in Clinton County, Iowa, on October 6, 1954. She graduated from Miles High School, attended Mount St. Clare College and Kirkwood Community College all in Iowa.

Jan married Mark A. Ryder on August 10, 1974, and were together for 35 years. She worked at the Clinton National Bank, Nielsen Clearing House, Burpee Seed Co. in Iowa and J.C. Penny and Blue Cross as the executive secretary here in Parkersburg. Jan loved fishing with her husband and often out did him. She also loved cats of which Merlin, Lexi and Kara will all miss her. Janet’s life did not make her great or famous but she touched the hearts of everyone she met.

Janet is survived by her loving husband, Mark Ryder; her parents, Arlene and Virgil Eggers; Her aunt, Lois Thomson from DeWitt, Iowa; her brother, David Eggers and his wife, Vickie, from Hauntown, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Deb Reid and her husband, Ron, from New London, Iowa; her mother-in-law Shirley Ryder from New London, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Brent Ryder from Lead, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Carlyn Monahan, from Ames, Iowa; and her grandparents.

Janet will be cremated by the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg and her cremated remains taken to DeWitt, Iowa, where a family memorial service will be held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at a later date.

Her husband requests that memorial donations be sent in Jan’s honor to the Parkersburg Humane Society, 29th and Poplar Streets, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
