Richard Wayne Wiebers, 82, of Camanche, died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at his home in Camanche.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2009, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche. Visitation will be Sunday, December 27, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Russ, Jerry, Frank, Ronnie and Ryan Wiebers, and Jeremy Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck and Tom Wiebers and his grandchildren.
Richard was born October 20, 1927, in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Dorothy (Watkins) Wiebers. He married Betty Schultz April 2, 1959, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche.
Richard was a WWII and Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed as a millwright with Local #2158 for 50 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, VFW Camanche and the AMVETS. He enjoyed the Cubs and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Camanche; sons, Charles (Carolyn) Wiebers of Bedford, GA, and James Wiebers of Sanger, CA, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 stepgreat-grandchildren, 4 sisters, Evelyn (Leon) O’Connors, Doris (Ray) Schultz, Shirley (Gene) Kooi and Joyce (Bob) Hart all of Camanche; and 1 brother, Arnold (Clara) Wiebers of Camanche.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson-in-law.
