CAMANCHE —
City officials approved the annual lease agreement with Archer Daniels Midland at a meeting Tuesday.
After holding a public hearing with no public comment, the council proceeded to renew the lease on portions of the Camanche Marina.
There were no surprises in the annual agreement.
“The city is required to hold a public hearing and take action on any leases involving the city right-of-way,” City Attorney Tom Lonergan said.
For many years the property has been leased by various parties for the purpose of operating a marina, according to the agreement.
The current lease with ADM will expire on Nov. 6, so to provide for continued operation of the marina, the city must enter a new agreement.
The area was dedicated for street purposes, but had never been fully developed for said use. This includes cross-sections of the marina containing vacant space off of Fourth Avenue between Second Street and Fourth Street and extending slightly farther in each direction. Much of the space is along Third Street and Third Avenue in the marina area.
Other actions:
• Council took no action regarding a donation to a tourism director position for Clinton County. Councilmen reached a consensus that the city receives plenty of tourism and promotional benefits from being a member of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce and involvement with the Clinton Regional Development Corporation and Clinton Visitors Bureau.
• Police Chief Bob Houzenga swore in new police officer Shane Evan Nixon. Houzenga noted it was a very exhausting process to find a new officer and said that he felt Nixon was by far the best candidate for the position.
