CLINTON —
There is still no cause known for a Wednesday afternoon fire that may have caused almost $500,000 damage to a local business.
Firefighters spent approximately 1 1⁄2 hours fighting a fire at a truck garage building at Darling International, 1423 Beaver Channel Parkway, according to a press release.
The Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to the business at 3:12 p.m. The department responded with one ladder truck, three engines, one paramedic ambulance, a command vehicle and 13 personnel. Fulton, Ill., and Camanche firefighters responded with mutual aid. According to a press release, the first engine on scene reported heavy smoke coming from the building. Due to all of the vehicles in the garage and the heavy smoke, firemen were unable to attack the fire and exited the building for safety concerns.
Firefighters then fought the fire from the exterior of the building. No one was injured. The fire is under investigation.
