CLINTON —
A former minor league basketball player is facing felony drug charges after allegedly being found in possession of crack cocaine with the intent to deliver.
Reginald George, 28, of Calumet City, Ill., is charged with possession with intent to deliver more than 10 but less than 50 grams of cocaine base, or crack, a Class B felony. George also is charged with violation of Iowa Drug Tax Stamp and possession of marijuana. Additionally, there was a Scott County warrant out for George’s arrest for possession of marijuana.
Clinton police stopped a vehicle George was driving around 7 p.m. Nov. 13 near Culvers. After Clinton police confirmed the warrant for George’s arrest issued by Scott County, he was arrested, according to the court affidavit.
Police say that when police searched George they found a white rock- like substance believed to be crack cocaine. Upon executing a search warrant at George’s apartment at 626 12th Ave. South, officers found additional quantities of crack cocaine in three separate packages, a small amount of marijuana, two digital scales and two boxes of plastic baggies, court records show.
The total amount of crack cocaine and packaging was more than 10 grams, according to the affidavit.
On his arrest report, George listed “basketball player” for the “Quebec Cavs” as his occupation. He signed with the Sterling based Sauk Valley Predators, a member team of the Premier Basketball League, in February, but separated from the team before playing a game, according to the team’s owner. George’s bail was originally set at $100,000, but reduced to $50,000. He posted bond and will appear for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 5. His lawyer could not be reached for comment.
