Contributions to United Way of Clinton County, Iowa’s annual fall campaign have reached $267,831 for 45 percent of the $600,000 goal after the Oct. 25 report meeting.
The campaign is on pace to reach the $600,000 goal by the end of the year or early 2013. The Camanche Division leads division results by reaching 88 percent of their $8,500 goal.
In addition, the Fork Some Pork BBQ was successful with a record profit of over $7,300 and delivering or serving over 1,100 meals. Other divisions have attained the following percent of goal: DeWitt Division – 34.2 percent; Pacesetter Division – 34.0 percent, Professional Division – 23.1 percent; Retail Small Business Division – 24.3 percent; Special Gifts Division – 37.3 percent; and Out of County Gifts – 34.0 percent. Divisions are ahead of last year’s contributions reported at the same time in the campaign.
The Oct. 25 report meeting focused on the issue of financial security.
Finding and maintaining employment provides the best chance of moving toward a safe and decent standard of living for individuals and their families. United Way funded programs encourage education and job training to secure decent jobs.
They work with individuals to understand job expectations such as attendance, proper work attire, and handling emergencies to keep their job.
United Way funded programs also work closely with other community organizations to secure stable, affordable housing, food security, transportation, and child and medical care when needed.
Single mothers with children are most affected by a low income. Family income is most important in shaping ability and achievement in young and middle-aged children than adolescents.
Seventy percent of families receiving assistance still worry about missing meals or rent payments and relied on emergency rooms for health care.
United Way funded programs that provide services in the area of financial security are ASAC/New Directions, American Red Cross, Associate Benevolent Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boy Scouts, City of Clinton Youth Recreation Program, Girl Scouts, Information Referral & Assistance Services, P.E.P., Salvation Army, Skyline Center Inc., YWCA of Clinton and Women’s Health Services. Together they provided support, guidance and financial assistance to over 15,635 individuals and families last year.
