CLINTON —
An electrical short is believed to be the cause of a Monday night fire that caused $45,000 in damage to a Clinton residence.
According to Clinton Battalion Chief Creighton Regenwether, at 8:13 p.m. Monday the Clinton Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1916 14th Ave. South.
Upon arrival, heavy smoke and fire were showing on the exterior front wall around the front door of the structure.
The occupants were out of the structure when the fire department arrived. No injuries were reported.
The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes; fire damage was confined to the front of the structure and smoke damage was limited to the inside of the structure, according to Regenwether.
The damage is estimated to be $35,000 for the structure and $10,000 for contents. The homeowners are insured.
The most likely cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical short in an exterior light, Regenwether said.
The Clinton Fire Department responded with a command vehicle, two engines, one ladder truck and two ambulances. The Clinton Police Department and mutual aid from the Camanche and Fulton, Ill., fire departments also assisted.
The American Red Cross is ensuring the fire victims’ emergency needs are being met.
