CLINTON —
The Clinton County Board of Supervisors agreed that more discussion is in order on proposed pay increases for county elected officials.
Supervisor Chairman John Staszewski and Supervisor Brian Schmidt voted to table a resolution for salary increases for County Attorney Mike Wolf, Sheriff Rick Lincoln, Auditor Eric Van Lancker, Treasurer Rhonda McIntyre, Recorder Steve Mangan and the supervisors. Both agreed that Supervisor Jill Davisson, who was absent, should be involved in the decision.
The proposal from the Compensation Board includes a $2,500 increase for Wolf, Lincoln, Van Lancker, McIntyre and Mangan. The supervisors would receive a $1,500 salary increase.
Schmidt was fine with the salary increase for the other five elected officials.
However, he proposed that the board members receive a $1,000 increase instead. He felt that based on the board’s ranking, having a $1,500 salary increase would be too high of a percentage.
McIntyre told the board that she would be willing to have a smaller pay increase. She would rather have the extra money used for other expenses, such as for another employee for the new DeWitt office.
The board did approve a pay increase for township officials under a new format. Previously, officials have received minimum wage per hour worked. Now, officials will receive $20 per meeting. Clerks will receive an additional $10 a month as well.
This pay increase will be effective on July 1. Van Lancker said it would have approximately a $1,200 effect on the budget.
“They deserve it,” Staszewski said.
