CLINTON —
Rep. Steve Olson prevailed once again for District 97, with his victory against opposing candidate Ted Whisler.
Olson, a Republican, will enter his sixth term in office.
“I will continue to make sure the focus stays on jobs, economy and property taxes,” Olson said.
District 97 covers the western part of Clinton County and the northern part of Scott County. Olson triumphed in Clinton County with 5,936 votes over Whisler with 3,791. In Scott County, Olson took the lead with 4,146 votes, 59.83 percent to Whisler’s 2779 votes and 40.10 percent.
Olson, a farmer, is a graduate of Iowa State University and Calamus High School. He is a former school board member and has served 10 years as representative of Iowa House District 83.
Key issues for Olson are property tax and gas tax reform, education, as well as job creation and attracting business to Iowa.
“It is important to be fiscally responsible for the voters,” Olson said.
His civic involvement includes serving in the Iowa Air National Guard and being a former chairman of a church council. He is also a member of numerous local, state and national community and agricultural groups.
“It has been very rewarding,” Olson said. “It’s an honor to serve the people of this community.”
