CLINTON —
No one was injured in a Friday afternoon structure fire that caused $10,000 of smoke and water damage to a Clinton apartment building.
Clinton Fire Department Battalion Chief Joel Atkinson said a call of smoke coming from a structure at 2119 Roosevelt St. came in around 12:36 p.m.
Atkinson said the downstairs tenant of the two-unit apartment building heard the smoke alarm sounding in the upstairs apartment. When the tenant went upstairs, they found no one home and smoke coming from the unit, prompting them to call the fire department and exit the building.
When firefighters arrived they found fire in the living room and extinguished it quickly, Atkinson said. No one was injured in the fire, but the building suffered approximately $10,000 in smoke and water damage, he said. Atkinson said following an investigation of the scene, the cause of the fire was undetermined. The Gateway Area Chapter of the American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist tenants.
