Clinton man sentenced to 30 years in prison on drug, weapons charges

CLINTON — A Clinton man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for multiple drug and gun offenses.

Kendall D. Robinson, 37, of Clinton, was sentenced in federal court in Davenport on Friday for  conspiracy to distribute more than 280 grams of cocaine base, also known as crack, between 2008 and Aug. 12, 2011, possession of a firearm in furtherance of the conspiracy and being a felon in possession of firearms.

Robinson was indicted on the charges in August 2011. A trial was held in July 2012, during which Robinson was found guilty on all charges.

The conspiracy involved several individuals who distributed crack together in Clinton for nearly three years. At least two firearms were linked directly to Robinson.

The sentencing hearing was held in U.S. District Court before Judge John A. Jarvey.

Jarvey ordered Robinson to serve 25 years for drug trafficking charges and a consecutive 5 years for possessing a firearm. Robinson must also serve 10 years supervised release and pay $400 towards the Crime Victim Fund. No fine was imposed.

Jarvey, noting Robinson’s history of violence and drug offenses, found the need to protect the public from Robinson an important factor in imposing the 30-year sentence.

This case was investigated by the Clinton Police Department, the Iowa Division of Narcotic Enforcement, and the U.S. Marshals Service, and the case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
