CLINTON —
The River Arts Center’s opening exhibit for 2013 will feature two artists, Gaye Shannon Burnett of Rock Island, Ill., and Jamie Smith of Clinton.
The art gallery is located at 229 Fifth Ave. South and is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. A reception for the artists will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 27; the public is welcome. There is no charge for the exhibits. This exhibit will begin Wednesday and will be on display through March 3. The center also is open for tours and group programs by calling 243-3300.
Burnett has a studio space at Bucktown Center for the Arts in Davenport. She uses colors and gestures in her paintings to help create a dialogue regarding abstract expression in African American art. As an urban contemporary artist, her work explores color, motion and influences taken from the diversity of the world. She also tries to absorb from the spiritual connection that binds them together.
Smith began designing while attending Kennedy King college from 2006 to 2008. She decided to become a freelance designer when asked to design a log for the automotive department. Smith received her associate’s degree in graphic design and worked as an independent contractor until the fall of 2009 when she enrolled at Ashford University in Clinton where she received her bachelor’s degree in visual art/graphic design in 2012. While taking photography, she became interested in macrophotography. In this exhibit, she will show 20 pieces of flowers in macrophotography, some in black and white.
