CLINTON —
A new trial date has been set for a Clinton man facing a first-degree murder charge.
The state alleges Andy Cole murdered 27-year-old Alysia Marburger in 2008, while committing sexual abuse. His original trial date was set for Feb. 18.
Earlier this month Judge Marlita Greve approved Cole’s request for new council. On Jan. 10, Cole told Greve that he did not like the way his attorney, Bruce Ingham, had been defending him. Assistant Iowa Attorney General Doug Hammerand, who is prosecuting the case alongside Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf, offered no objection to the motion.
Cole’s new counsel, Thomas Goodman from Dubuque, appeared before Greve on Thursday on behalf of his client. He asked that the trial be rescheduled to allow him enough time to prepare.
The trial has been set for 9 a.m. July 29, with a final pre-trial conference at 1:30 p.m. June 27.
