SALEM, Mass. — A man who buzzed over this historic Massachusetts community in a motor-powered flying machine was brought down to earth by local police.
Patrick Tarmey, 25, now faces disorderly conduct charges for operating a powered paraglider over different parts of Salem and then flying over cars during busy rush-hour traffic.
Police were tipped off by concerned motorists who called the police department.
“He could do his flying somewhere else that’s not over vehicles on 9/11,” said Lt. Mary Butler said, pointing out Tuesday was the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the country.
Butler said Tarmey will face a charge of disorderly conduct because he was “creating a hazard for no legitimate reason” by flying too low and distracting drivers by his actions.
“It could have caused a motor vehicle accident,” she said.
