CLINTON —
This week, Clinton will experience a two-day Fourth of July celebration unlike any other from the past 50 years.
With Riverboat Days no more, sisters Erin George and Emily Steenhard stepped in to make sure their children, and the city, had a family friendly and free Fourth of July celebration to attend.

In addtion to the sister’s events on the actual holiday, the Clinton LumberKings also have events planned for Tuesday July 3.
They will host the annual LumberStock Festival which is free as well. It includes a classic car show and bags tournament. The car show will start at 5 p.m. There will be a $5 pre-registration fee or a $10 same day fee for those who wish to enter their car in the competition.
The bags tournament will begin at 6 p.m. Competiters can register early for $10 or the day-of for $15. There will be cash prizes for the bags tournament winner.
From 7 to 9 p.m. there will be a free Coupe De Ville concert. For more information on the July 3 Lumberkings events call (563)242-0727 and ask for Nate.
Fourth of July
The events on the Fourth of July will begin with a volleyball tournament at 9:00 a.m and a bags tournament at 10:30 a.m. Prior registration for these events is required.
The parade will start at 1:00 p.m. and will run along Riverview Drive from the Ninth Avenue North boat ramp to the Historical Society at 601 S. First St.
The municipal pool will begin a free kids swim day at 1:00 p.m., adults will be $2.
After the parade ends at approximately 2 p.m., the free festivities in the park will begin. Save the Fourth organizers were able to secure six giant inflatables including a slide, bounce house, obstacle course, a caterpillar and a bungee run.
Children can enjoy a petting zoo with food for $1, a dunk tank, a Discovery Center tent with games, face painting and temporary tattoos.
There will also be sidewalk chalk, hopscotch, and an old-fashioned obstacle course available from 2 until 6 p.m.

The Clinton Municipal Band, Landon and Liam, John June Year and the Dani Lynn How Band will perform throughout the afternoon activities.
Contests will also run at various times throughout the day. Children can compete in sack racing, watermelon eating, sunflower seed spitting and several other events.
Adults will also be able to compete to see who can eat the most Holly’s hot dogs.
Mini hotdogs, fruit, hamburgers, watermelon, pizza, hot dogs, cotton candy and snow cones will be available for free on a first-come, first-served basis.
The sisters recommend attendees plan for a day in the park and bring snacks, drinks, chairs and blankets.
After the events end around 6 p.m. the sisters encourage residents to attend either “Bye Bye Birdie” at the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre at 6:30 p.m. or watch the LumberKings face the Beloit Snappers beginning at 7 p.m.
The LumberKings will put on a fireworks show at approximately 9:30 p.m.
