• “Dream Big: Read,” this year’s summer reading program, is hosted by the Clinton County Association of Public Libraries. Programs are free and open to the public. Programs will be at the Ericksen Community Center, 1401 11th Ave. North, Calamus-Wheatland High School, 110 E. Park Road, Lost Nation Public Library, 410 Main St., DeWitt Community Center, 716 Sixth Ave., and the Clinton County Fairgrounds in DeWitt.
• The Clintonish Knitters meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Enter the east entrance from the parking lot and go upstairs, follow the signs.
• Weekly tours of Lock and Dam 13 in Fulton, Ill., are under way. The weekly Lock and Dam tours will take place every Sunday from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend at 1 p.m. The tours will cover a brief history of the Mississippi River and the purpose of Locks and Dams along the river. All participants must wear closed toed shoes to attend the full lock tour.
CAST
• Each Saturday at noon, the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre interns will perform one of the following Children’s Theatre productions: Ivan the Terrier by Peter Catalanotto and adapted to the stage by Kristin Katsu, The Dream Eater by Christian Garrison and also adapted by Katsu, and The City Mouse and the Country Mouse by Aesop and adapted by Charmaine Spencer. The Dream Eater, presented Aug. 4, is a Japanese fairy tale that revolves around a young boy, Yukio, who cannot escape his bad dreams.
Ivan the Terrier, presented Aug. 11, follows two narrators telling the audience a story of the three billy goats when suddenly a little terrier interrupts with his rambunctious barking. For more information, call 242-6760 or go to www.clintonshowboat.org.

• Sunset Cruise, 7 p.m., Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center, Rock Creek. Every Thursday evening through October, the conservation board will offer naturalist-guided eco cruises aboard the Blue Heron pontoon boat on the Mississippi River. Call 259-1876 to reserve a spot.
Aug. 3
• Bat Stream, 8 p.m., Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center, Rock Creek. Meet at the Eco Tourism Center for a short introduction then walk (or drive) north of the campground to experience “The Bat Stream.” A torrent of bats whiz past on the way to the river for a night of foraging for mosquitoes. Meet at the Eco Tourism Center.
Aug. 4
• Free Paddling, 8 a.m. to noon, Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center, Rock Creek. Rock Creek’s canoes and kayaks will be available to use free of charge in the Mississippi River backwaters around the park.
• Early Bird Cruise, 9 a.m., Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center, Rock Creek.
• Free Canoe Shuttle, 2 p.m., Walnut Grove Park, Toronto. Call to sign up, 563-847-7202. Limit of 2 canoes per group. The last launch will be by 3:30 p.m. All participants must be off the river by 6 p.m.
• Nature Center Open House — 1-4 p.m. — Eden Valley Refuge, Baldwin. The Nature Center will be open by volunteer hosts. The center features live local reptiles, rocks and minerals, Iowa habitats and artifacts.
• Fish Boil, 4-7 p.m., Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center, Rock Creek. Enjoy a Door County-style fish boil dinner with all the trimmings.
• Saturday Night At the Movies, dusk, Eden Valley Refuge, Baldwin. The campground at Eden Valley will show family movies on the big screen for campers and park visitors.
