• The Left Bank Art League of East Moline, Ill., will be exhibiting at the River Arts Center in Clinton through April 21. The paintings and raku pottery of these nine dedicated artists, Sheryl Lammers, Pat Halvorsen, Rose Moore, Judy O. Gray, Bonnie Grebner, Karen Stewart Casper, Sharon Hanson, Lori Miller, and Brent Langley, will be shown. The River Arts Center is located at 229 Fifth Ave. South, in Clinton and is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 1-4 p.m. and by appointment for groups, programs and tours by calling 243-3300. Operated by volunteers from the Clinton Art Association, all exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public.  

• Clintonish Knitters meet Thursdays from 5:30 -7 p.m. and Saturdays between 9 and noon. There is no fee for this group. Stitchers share techniques and the love of knitting or crocheting. Meetings are at Clinton’s St Paul's Lutheran Church at the corner of Eighth Avenue South and Third Street. Use the east entrance; an elevator is available.

March 21

•  Peaceful River Trading Co. is hosting a gallery opening for artist and crafter Cathy Carton. The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at 302 N. Salina St. in McCausland.  

• Iowa Learning Farms will host a cover crops workshop, along with the Eastern Iowa Hay Producers Association, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Practical Farmers of Iowa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Buzzy’s Pizza in Welton. The workshop will focus on cover crops for feed, soil and nutrient management.   The event is free and includes a complimentary lunch. This workshop is in conjunction with the EIHPA annual meeting. The EIHPA will collect annual dues as part of the business meeting at the workshop. The public is invited to attend, but an RSVP is recommended. The workshop will be held at Buzzy’s Pizza, 414 Main St., Welton. The field tour will be to the Neal Engel farm, 25439 Iowa Highway 64, Maquoketa. The farm is located four miles southeast of Maquoketa at the junction of Highway 64 and County Road Y-60, approximately 10 miles north of Welton on Y-60.

March 24

• The 32nd Annual Four Mile Easter Seals/Children’s Therapy Center Run/Fun Walk. Run starts at 9 a.m. Kids Run starts at 8:45 a.m. The event takes place at the Masonic Center in Clinton and will support Easter Seals Iowa and the Children’s Therapy Center. • The Welton Volunteer Fire Department’s all-you-can-eat omelette breakfast will be at the Welton Fire station in Welton.  Serving will take place from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Cost  is $6 for adults, $3 for kids younger than 12, and those younger than 5 get in free. • Youth Hunter Education Challenge at 1 p.m. at the Wapsi Valley Izaak Walton League, DeWitt. Y.H.E.C. is a weekend-long event that takes place each June. The event is held at Camp Wesley Woods, Indianola. Youths compete in eight events, learn about the outdoors and have fun with other young people that have similar interests. Clinton County youths compete in teams of five. There are two age categories, Junior (ages 12-14) and Senior (ages 15-18). Limited spots are available and youths must be able to make most of the practices. The YHEC will practice at the Wapsi Ikes from 1-4 p.m. March 24, April 7, April 21, May 5, May 19 and June 2 with competition June 7-9.

• Members of the Solon community churches will present “The Last Living Supper” at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Boniface Church.  Attendees will meet each of the 12 disciples and follow Jesus on His journey to the cross. Everyone is welcome to attend.

March 25

• The Volunteer Millers at De Immigrant windmill in Fulton, Ill., will host their third program in 2013 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Windmill Cultural Center at 111 10th Ave. in downtown Fulton, across from Fulton's Dutch windmill. The 2013 program series coordinates with Fulton’s tourism theme: “Lincoln Highway Centennial 1913-2013: Travel & Tribute.”

Guest speaker Mike Hoenig asks attendees to imagine themselves returning from a long walk on the beach in St.  Martin and discovering that your trusted telescopic white cane has leapt from your swim suit pocket and washed out to sea or to picture yourself rappelling into a lake in New Zealand from a 100-foot hill — with your eyes closed. Blind since birth, Davenport resident  Hoenig will share these and other travel adventures to such fascinating sites as Central Asia, Costa Rica, and the Cotswolds as he blends humorous anecdotes with candid conversation about challenges faced by a blind traveler.  Learn how some tourist attractions, including a Quad-City point of interest,  have adapted their programming to accommodate blind visitors.  You will never again be tempted to ask, as so many have, "Why would a blind person ever want to travel?" Hoenig was born in Fort Madison. He has been blind since birth as the result of Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, a rare retinal condition that affects approximately 3,000 Americans. At the age of 5, Mike enrolled as a student at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School (IBSSS).  He resided at the school for nine months out of the year, making the three-hour trip to Fort Madison on weekends or holiday vacations.  He graduated from IBSSS and then received a B.A. in psychology from Central College, Pella, Iowa. He earned an M.A.  in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Iowa. The 2013 Volunteer Millers programs are funded by a grant from the D. S. Flikkema Foundation.  The events are free and open to the public, and the facility is accessible to persons with disabilities.
