CLINTON —
Gail Levsen, of rural Clinton, and Jenny Green, of Clinton, agree that volunteers are what make the annual B-rrry Scurry possible.
“We couldn’t do it without them,” Gail said.
Jenny has worked in admissions at Clinton Community College for six years. Gail has worked in the district for 23 years and at CCC for four. For the past four years, they have been in charge of the volunteers for the B-rrry Scurry. As employees for CCC, they have their choices of several different committees they could serve on.
“We have elected to serve B-rrry Scurry because we feel that it’s a worthwhile cause for scholarships for our students,” Gail said.
Jenny and Gail agree that the B-rrry Scurry is a great community event. Jenny said that as of Wednesday, there were more than 600 people registered for the event. She hoped to beat last year’s total of 764 participants.
“What makes it fun is between the volunteers, the sponsors and the runners. They’re all what makes the race,” Jenny said.
Gail and Jenny agreed their favorite part of the event is working with all of the volunteers. They said there are a lot of people who work the event, both inside and outside.
“It’s their eagerness, their loyalty. A lot of our volunteers have been with us for years and years,” Gail said. “They just automatically volunteer and do their job. They’re reliable.”
Jenny and Gail said they would be at today’s B-rrry Scurry, working alongside the rest of the volunteers. Jenny said they are always ready to jump in and fill in if something needs to be done.
She joked they call themselves the runners because they are always moving from one job to another.
“If life happens and somebody can’t be there we try to keep things running smoothly,” Gail said.
