CLINTON —
More than 40 Clinton High School seniors and juniors were honored for their scholarship, leadership, service and character by being inducted into the National Honor Society on Wednesday night.
Students need to have a GPA of 3.5 or above and are sponsored by faculty and administration in order to be inducted.
“We welcome these new members,” Suzanne Schrader, faculty advisor, said.
Mark Massey, social studies teacher and volleyball coach, delivered the keynote remarks, reminding students of the lives they will live after high school and the abundant potential each of them has.
“You will never understand the power and beauty of your youth until they fade. Trust me, in 20 years you will look back at photos of yourself perhaps ones that have been on Facebook or Twitter and recall in a way that you cannot even begin to grasp now how much possibility lays before you and how fabulous your opportunities are,” Massey said.
He also reminded the scholars to be thankful for the people who have helped them along their path.
“Your teachers, the entire staff from preschool, your parents, your extended family, indeed the larger community of Clinton, have helped you in ways that we rarely stop to appreciate, Massey said. Please remember to be appreciative of all that have an impact on your life. Be proud of not only yourself and what you have accomplished — and you truly have — be proud to be a graduate of Clinton High. Be proud to be from Clinton.”
NHS officers also deliverered words to their fellow classmates on the organization’s four pillars. President Will Carr spoke on leadership; Secretary Anna Marshall spoke on scholarship; Treasurer Travis Mink spoke on service; and Marquel Schultheis spoke on behalf of Vice President Rubina Vidal.
CHS Principal Karinne Tharaldson Jones provided the closing remarks.
“I’m very proud of our school. I’m proud of our kids. And I’m especially proud of you the parents for all the work you have done. This is not an easy task, getting kids to this level,” she said.
