DEWITT —
Miss Clinton County was crowned at the 51st annual pageant at the Central Preforming Arts Center in DeWitt on Saturday.
Current titleholder Alexandria Necker crowned Ashley Herrington, 22, a University of Iowa graduate, as the new Miss Clinton County.
One of six contestants for the position, Herrington set herself apart with her platform of “Reaching out through dance,” and her talent of jazz pointe.
“Reaching out through dance is the step needed to get Iowa moving in fun and creative ways,” Herrington said.
Other contestants included runner-up Rachel Kuhl, 17, a senior at Camanche High School; Emily Evans, 17, a senior at Camanche High School; Cassandra Claeys, 20, freshman at Ashford University; People’s Choice Winner Orion Bredekamp,18, freshman at St. Ambrose University; and Stormy Jahn,17, senior at Northeast High School.
Kylie Moore, 13, a seventh-grader at Central Middle School, was crowned the new Miss Clinton County’s Outstanding Teen by current titleholder Savannah Necker. Moore impressed judges with her platform, “Love for Animals- Proper Pet Care,” and her rendition of “In My Own Little Corner.” Other contestants included runner-up Kennedy Walter, 15, sophomore at Clinton High; Danyka Jaeger,12, seventh-grader at Lyons Middle School; and Nicole Andresen,13, freshman at Clinton High School.
Current Junior Miss Clinton County Maddie Peterson passed her torch to Alexis Schroeder, 11, sixth-grader at Calamus-Wheatland School. Schroeder dazzled judges with her community service project, the University of Iowa Dance Marathon, and her clogging. Other contestants included runner-up Brittany Costello,10, sixth-grader at Lyons Middle School; Rebekah Jaeger, 10, fifth-grader at Eagle Heights Elementary School; Hannah Dalton, 11, fifth-grader at Jefferson Elementary; Khloe Seiders, 11, sixth-grader at Lyons Middle School; and Rebekah Atkinson,11, seventh-grader at Lyons Middle School.
A new Lil’ Miss Clinton county was crowned to finish off the pageant. Current titleholder Alexis Krogmann passed her honors on to 8-year-old Camryn Saxon, a third-grader at Camanche Elementary School. Camryn preformed song and dance and said she would like to become a dancer or artist someday. Saxon competed against two other contestants, 5-year-old and kindergartener Gracelyn Rodekamp and 8-year-old and second-grader at Eagle Heights Elementary Brooke Lieferman.
Several awards and scholarships were given to contestants.
