Holiday cheer lights up City Park thanks to a large group of dedicated volunteers who donated time, effort and decorations.
The City’s Party in the Park group is at it again to bring camaraderie and togetherness to the tight-knit community.
“We decorated the park with trees last year, but we wanted to do something different this year,” organizer Karlee Low said. “The response and help from everyone was overwhelming.”
With money raised from the Camanche Fall Festival and donations from Ruthann McGrogan’s birthday party the group bought wooden decorations. From then forward residents came out of the woodwork to help make the holiday display a reality.
Frank Edens and his family, who are known for spectacular Halloween decorations, made Santa’s sleigh. The Laurion family donated a wooden Santa’s workshop. Roy Shaft, shop teacher at Camanche High School, cut out snowmen and local artist Liesl Mensinger painted the details onto the snowmen. More than 10 individuals donated decorations to complete the display.
“We’ve gotten so many donations,” Low said. “It’s been great with all the support from the community.”
The final step was getting Santa on the scene. The Camanche Classic committee stepped up to pay for the holiday icon and Shaft went to work again. Mensinger also decorated the jolly cutout who will be arriving by Dec. 24, just in time for Christmas.
“I think this shows how much we all care about our community,” volunteer Brenda Jacobs said.
It all started from a simple tree donation and has grown with the help of those hoping to make the holidays brighter.
