CLINTON —
The United Way of Clinton County has exceeded its fall campaign goal, raising a record amount of gifts for the second year in a row.
Cory Coppess, fall 2012 campaign chairman, has announced Thursday that $607,476, in contributions have been collected, exceeding the $600,000 goal.
“At the beginning of campaign, I asked the campaign volunteers to work hard on behalf of those who need help, and they did. Our goal was to finish early and finish strong,” Coppess said in a press release.
More than 300 volunteers work to provide adequate resources that allow Clinton residents to meet their daily living needs. United Way leadership thanked all of the volunteers and contributors at the organization’s annual meeting Thursday.
The Clinton County United Way funds 26 programs each year in Camanche, Clinton, DeWitt and surrounding communities. Funds from United Way provided one book a month for 250 children from low-income families for one year, helped provide shelter and counseling to more than 1,000 people, mentored more than 3,000 children in 2012 and provided social and recreational activities for more than 91 handicapped individuals. The organization was also able to pay for day care for more than 1,000 children and fill 3,500 monthly food baskets for families.
Outgoing board and committee members were also recognized during the annual meeting.
Those completing terms on the board of trustees were Jurgen Duhr, Bobbie Bartels-Poll, Deb Richter, Travis Flatten, Cory Coppess, Karen Marshall and Drew McEleney. The Citizens Review Committee members completing a term were Mike Determan, Bonnie Freitag, Cheryl Frey, Libby Goodman, Karen Marshall, Mike Nass and Alisha Parker.
“Since being involved, I have realized what a tremendous organization United Way is and what a huge impact it makes in the community,” Outgoing Board President Brent Andresen said.
New officers, trustees and CRC members were elected. The officers are Tom Moser, president; Travis Flatten, first vice president and campaign chairman; Rick Guemmer, second vice president; Paul Mangin, treasurer; and Cheryl Frey, CRC chairwoman. Brent Andresen, Bobbie Bartels-Poll and Travis Flatten were elected to second terms as trustees and Anita Dalton, Rick Guemmer, Darlene Lamp, Karen Marshall, Michelle Waltz and Heather Wuebben were elected to first terms.
Newly elected CRC members include Cheryl Frey, Alisha Parker, Jeff Atkinson, Jim Bengtson, Mike Nass, Kelsey Prins, Kim Ralston and Justin Shaffer.
