CLINTON —
The local United Way began its annual fall campaign with enthusiastic and committed volunteers ready to ask for contributions.
Volunteers received the materials and information needed to raise funds for the organization at a special kick-off event on Thursday.
“We need to get a strong, timely start and to build and sustain our momentum so that we can reach the $600,000 goal by the end of the year,” Campaign Chairman Cory Coppess said.
Agency representatives, in-house campaign coordinators and United Way volunteers that attended the kickoff/training event learned about United Way, their roles and responsibilities, and best practices used in 2011 by area business and industry to reach record employee giving levels to help United Way and partner agencies address local community needs.
Brent Andresen, United Way Board president, thanked individuals for their efforts while asking them to “do things that make a difference and achieve results” for the community.
He stressed work done by the United Way Board and staff to identify and support community needs in the areas of education, income and health that address hunger insecurity, livable wages, job and life skills, and children’s mental health services.
United Way remains cost effective and efficient by using local volunteers to allocate funds to partner agencies. Contributions stay in Clinton County to help those in need in Camanche, Clinton, DeWitt and the surrounding areas.
