FULTON, Ill. —
Being an administrative assistant just didn’t cut it for one creative writer Misty Fanderclai, and many loyal readers are glad this is true.
Accomplished paranormal romance author and Fulton native Fanderclai, known by the pen name of Misty Evans, released her new book this week, “Dancing with the Devil,” the fifth book in the Witches Anonymous Series.
Fanderclai was born in St. Louis, but has spent all of her life in Fulton reading and writing. With an expert storyteller for a mother, young Fanderclai developed a love for creative writing, but didn’t become an author until much later.
Coming out of college with a business degree, she spent time working in a more practical field and dabbled in creative writing until 9/11, when she decided it was time to pursue the passion she really enjoyed.
An interest in the CIA and curiosity about terrorism stemming from the tragedy led to Fanderclai’s first book about super agents, which eventually lent itself to a full- fledged series.
From there she delved into paranormal romance followed by culinary romance. But how does one get into these unique genres?
“I had this idea to write about a bad witch who wants to go good, so that started my Witches Anonymous series,” Fanderclai said. “I started writing culinary books, because I love cooking and baking.”
While she loves writing her books, it’s the communication with fans and other writers that really make the job for Fanderclai.
All of her books are easily accessible to people anywhere in the world, leaving a loyal and eclectic fan base.
“A reader in Japan asked me what Dove chocolates were, since one of my characters eats them when she’s stressed out,” Fanderclai said. “It’s funny what we take for granted in America. It’s very cool to have fans across the globe.”
In addition to writing multiple series, she also teaches online writing classes and offers individual consulting to aspiring authors.
When she is not consumed by deadlines, editing, advertising, finding cover art and, of course, writing, she enjoys spending time with her husband, twin sons and dog.
