The Fulton Christmas Walk is scheduled for Dec. 7, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in downtown Fulton. The theme this year is “Oh Christmas Tree.”
Events at Heritage Canyon will be held the first Saturday of the month on Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with an illuminated walk from 6 to 8 p.m. Breakfast with Santa at the Fulton Fire Station will be Saturday, Dec. 1, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
The Fulton Chamber of Commerce is working on the schedule of events and encouraging any business or organization wishing to participate in the event to contact its office by Nov. 5 in order to be included in promotions. Most indoor space is limited, but there may be a few downtown shops willing to work with another chamber member. Of course, there is plenty of outdoor space for those brave enough to withstand the cold.
Those seeking to contribute to the art downtown may purchase a 3-foot artificial tree, decorate it, and put it on display the night of the Christmas Walk. All decorated trees will be on display at the Fulton Masonic Lodge. During the night of the walk, the public will have a chance to bid on the trees. Proceeds will then be split between the Fulton Food Pantry and Fulton Kiwanis Club’s Needy Children Christmas Fund. The trees cost $25, payable to the Fulton Chamber of Commerce. Orders for trees must be made by Nov. 2 so they are ready by Dec. 7. Orders will be taken upon payment. Mail or drop off your check to the Fulton Chamber Office, 415 11th Ave., Fulton, IL 61252.
The River Bend Senior Center will be hosting an arts and crafts fair at the old fire station during the event on Dec. 7 and on Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost for a booth space is $20. To register, contact the River Bend Senior Center at (815) 589-3925 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The eighth Annual Illuminated 2-Mile Run/Walk is a unique evening run atop of the levee, lighted up with hundreds of luminaries courtesy of the Fulton Boy Scouts. This is a great event for businesses promoting wellness programs and exercising with friends and family, all while getting into the holiday spirit. Registration for the walk is at 5:30 p.m. at Manny’s Too, with a race start time of 6:30 p.m. Cost to participate is $14 prior to Nov. 27 and $20 after Nov. 27. The first 175 registrants will receive a fleece beanie cap. Race forms can be downloaded from the city website, under the Christmas Walk listing: www.cityoffulton.us.
Volunteers are needed to help with road blocks during the run/walk. Volunteers will work about 30 to 45 minutes to ensure the streets are free from vehicular traffic. The city is also seeking four individuals willing to wear the Gingerbread Man costume and Grinch costume (5:15-6:15 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m.). Fulton Boy Scouts are in need of donations to purchase the luminaries along the dike. The total project cost is $300. If you wish to donate funds towards the luminaries, drop off your donation to the Fulton Chamber of Commerce, checks payable to Fulton Boy Scouts. The Chamber will forward all donations to the Fulton Boy Scouts for their luminary fund.
