BLOOMINGTON, Ill. —
Morrison’s Reid Hoffman was tied for 17th place Friday after first-round play at the Illinois boys golf state tournament.
Hoffman, a senior, shot 39s on both sides for a 78 total on the par-72 Prairie Vista Golf Course layout. He made birdie-3s on Nos. 1 and 6 but also had a triple-bogey 8 on No. 7 as he tied five other players at the midway point.
Nick McCall of Winnetka North Shore Country Day made five birdies, four on the back nine, as he fired a 2-under 70 to take a one-stroke lead in the medalist race.
Fulton senior Logan Rascher had a rough day in his first state-meet competition.
Rascher shot a 55-49—104 and was tied for 107th place out of 110 golfers. Rascher made a pair of pars on the back side but also had two 10s on the front.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes today.
Prophets girls 11th
DECATUR, Ill. — Led by Annie Sandrock, one of five seniors on the squad, Prophetstown shot a 399 and was in 11th place Friday after the first round of the Class 1A Illinois girls golf state tournament.
Sandrock was in an eight-way tie for 49th place after shooting an opening-round 90 at the par-72 Red Tail Run Golf Course. She had three pars on each side as she shot 43 on the front nine and 47 on the back side.
Molly Corbin had the next-best score for the Prophets with a 51-48—99, while Stephanie Emery shot a 53-51—104 and Abbey Baker, the lone junior, finished with a 51-55—106 to round out the scoring. Ella Kramer shot a 53-54—107 and Amanda Bertolozzi added a 57-67—124 for the Prophets.
Rochester and Metropolis Massac County were tied for the team lead after each team shot a 331. Quincy Notre Dame was third at 339.
Sabrina Bonanno of Norridge Ridgewood held a three-stroke lead in the medalist race. She birdied four of the final five holes on the back nine and carded a 1-over-par 73.
