GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP

Morrison put on a fourth-quarter rally and outscored Rock Falls over the final eight minutes, but the Rockets held on to beat the Fillies 44-40 on Monday on the opening night of the Sauk Valley Bank Shootout girls basketball tournament.

Shelby McBride led Mustang with 14 points and Katie Tenboer added 13.

Rock Falls jumped ahead 14-10 after one period and raised the lead to 25-19 at halftime. Morrison entered the final quarter down by seven points and closed the gap.

Erie rolls over Alexis United

in opener of Tip-Off Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Ill. — Erie jumped in front by 12 points in the first quarter and coasted to a season-opening, 65-37 win against Alexis United on Monday at the Temple’s Tip-Off Classic at Cambridge High School.

Sydney Stewart was too much for United to handle as she finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds. The Cardinals also got a double-double from Katelyn Blasdell (10 points, 12 rebounds). Alex Howard added nine points off the bench, and Carissa Saad finished with 11 assists.

“The girls played well as a team,” Erie coach Brian Howell said. “Our energy and pressure from all the girls was outstanding.”
