Erie to play for title

PRINCETON, Ill. — Erie improved to 3-0 with a 65-33 win over LaMoille on Friday in girls basketball at the Princeton Tournament.

Kayla Waggoner led the way for the Cardinals with 12 points.

LaMoille stuck with Erie early, trailing 14-10 after the first period.

“After a sluggish start, our offense and defense picked up,” Erie coach Brian Howell said. “The key for us was our transition game.”

The Cardinals dished out 18 assists, led by four each from Laykin Miner and Paige Rus. Miner, Des Lawson, Victoria Young, Rachel Cobert and Courtney Cobert each grabbed three rebounds to lead Erie.

Rachel Cobert also reached double figures with 10 points.

“Rachel Cobert played big off the bench tonight,” Howell said.

Erie plays in the championship game of the Princeton Tournament tonight at 7:30.
