CAMANCHE —
Courtney Sowle and Libby Schnoor combined for 23 kills and 13 blocks Thursday night as Camanche upended Lisbon 25-12, 25-21, 11-25, 25-20 in Big East Conference volleyball.
Lisbon entered the game ranked 13th in Class 1A.
“The girls played with intensity and the will to win tonight,” Camanche coach Erin Daniels said. “Kylie (Vogel) mixed up the sets perfectly, and our hitters did a good job of mixing up where the ball was placed. Our blocking was definitely on tonight, too.”
Sowle had seven blocks, Schnoor had six and Julia Moore added five more for the Indians (5-9, 4-1 Big East). Sowle led Camanche with 12 kills, while Schnoor had 11 and Brettan Hilgendorf added nine. Schnoor led the defense with 13 digs.
“All of the girls did a great job on defense,” Daniels said.
After Camanche won the first two games, Lisbon came back and took Game 3, but the Indians recovered.
“We got down in the third game and had a hard time pulling ourselves out of it,” Daniels said, “but they did a good job coming back in the fourth game.”
Mohawks sweep Irish
BELLEVUE — Eighth ranked Marquette Catholic beat Prince of Peace in straight sets, 25-14, 25-10, 25-22, on Thursday in Big East Conference volleyball.
Danielle Bender had 12 kills to lead the Mohawks, who improved to 18-3, 5-0 in the Big East.
Julia Isenhour led the Irish (6-13, 1-5) with seven kills
Preston cruises
WYOMING — Preston, which jumped from 12th to ninth in the Class 1A rankings that were released earlier in the day, swept Midland in Big East volleyball, winning 25-12, 25-18, 25-23 on Thursday.
Warriors earn victory
WHEATLAND — Calamus-Wheatland pulled out two-point wins in the first and fourth games and defeated Bellevue 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 26-24 on Thursday in Big East action.
Stephanie Petersen had 17 kills to lead the Warriors, while Kelsey Ernst led Bellevue with 12 kills and seven aces.
Cardinals beat Anamosa
MAQUOKETA — Maquoketa, ranked ninth in Class 4A, ran its record to 10-3, 4-1 in the WaMaC Conference with a 25-10, 25-8, 25-8 win against Anamosa on Thursday night.
Erica Sutton had 12 kills to lead the Cardinals, while Marlee Lindstrom had 37 assists and six ace serves.
