On homecoming for Fulton, visiting Spring Valley Hall barely put up a fight.
The Steamers dominated in a 28-0 win. Kicking off to start the game, things didn’t look like they were going to go the Steamers, way early. On Hall’s first possession they got down to the Steamer 13-yard line before the Steamers forced a turnover on downs.
The Steamer defense woke up midway through the first series just in time to stop the Red Devils in the red zone. There was only one other time that Hall threatened to score against the Steamer defense but the threat was killed by an interception.
The homecoming win was a team win for the Steamers. Everyone was contributing making the big plays and the right plays.
“This was a complete team victory in the biggest sense of the word, everybody had a part in this everybody had a role in it.” Fulton coach Patrick Lower said.
Fulton made big plays all night on both offense and defense. The Steamers scored on their first possession of the game for the fourth time in five games.
Fullback Josh Ballard ran for 45 yards on his first carry, giving the Steamers the first down and momentum into Red Devil territory.
Ballard was one of many Steamers who stepped up against Hall after seeing little time against Newman and other opponents this season. Weston Jones was another. Jones caught a key 22-yard pass in the fourth quarter on a third down conversion that kept the Steamer drive alive.
“Weston Jones early in that fourth quarter, he hadn’t been in the ball game in quite a while on offense,” Lower said. “He comes in and catches a pass down the middle and gets a first down. Josh Ballard in the first half, he’s worked hard this week and when his number was called he made a great play for us.”
The Steamers later scored on that drive when Ethan Jones kept the ball on the option and ran the ball in 9 yards up the right sideline for a touchdown that put the game out of reach 28-0.
The Steamer offense rolled, racking up 330 yards on the ground and 352 yards of total offense using the option offense and switching up ball carriers, using five.
The defense for the Steamers intercepted three passes, one of which came in the end zone when Hall’s quarterback overthrew his receiver and the ball landed in Austin Manon’s hands, squelching the closest thing Hall had to a threat after the first quarter of play.
The Steamers will look to continue their strong play on the road next Saturday afternoon against the St. Bede Bruins.
