CLINTON —
A presentation about 50/50 in 20/20, sponsored by American Association of University Women, will be Monday at the First United Presbyterian Church.
The social time starts at 6:30 p.m. with the program to follow at 7 p.m.
Mag-gie Tins-man, former Iowa State Sen-ator for 18 years and a Re-publican and co-foun-der, with Jean Lloyd-Jones, Democrat with 50/50 in 2020, will speak about the ur-gency of achieving equal representation for women in government.
The mission of 50/50 in 2020 is to achieve political equity for Iowa women by recruiting, training and mentoring women so that by the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage Iowans will have elected women as 50 percent of the Iowa Legislature, the Iowa delegation to the U.S. Congress, and the office of Governor.
“We are a group concerned that although women comprise 53 percent of the registered voters in Iowa and turn out to vote in higher percentages than men, only 22.6 percent of the seats in the State Legislature are held by women and Iowa is one of only two states which has never sent a women to Washington as a Senator or U.S. Representative.”
To reach political equity in the Iowa Legislature by 2020, they are advocating:
• 50 women in the House of Representatives
• 25 women in the Senate
• One woman to the U.S. Senate
• Two women to the U.S. House of Representatives
• A female Governor of Iowa
All are welcome. For more information, call Carol McGuire at 243-8460.

Kebabs: Health kick on a stick
Grilling is a simple way to feed your family well this summer. Start with a lean meat and a healthful marinade and then allow the grill to strip away additional fat for a heart-healthy and waist-friendly final result. Plus, grilling caramelizes the natural sugars in foods, which adds flavor without additional calories and fat.

In fan fiction, your favorite characters do what you want them to
When J.J. Abrams took over the "Star Trek" franchise in 2009, he boldly went where the series hadn't gone before — romantically — pairing Uhura with Spock. Many fans disliked the change. Some loved it. Others didn't care, because they just wanted to see Kirk and Spock make out.
