Davenport man pleads guilty in DeWitt trailer park shooting
CLINTON — A Davenport man has pleaded guilty to felony intimidation with a dangerous weapon in connection with shots fired at a DeWitt trailer park last year.
Troy. J. Talbot, 18, has been ordered to serve up to five years in prison and fined $750 as part of a plea agreement, in which he pleaded down from a Class C felony, which carried a possible 10-year prison term, to a class D felony.
The sentences will be served concurrently with two other Scott County criminal cases, which involve drug and weapons charges, and he is to go back to the Anamosa State Penitentiary, according to court records.
According to a court affidavit, the Clinton County charge was filed after a July 23, 2008, incident in which sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the Winding Brook Trailer Court, 2210 260th Ave., Lot 40, for a report that a firearm had been discharged into a mobile home occupied by five people. Witnesses in the trailer park said an older, dark, Ford Taurus had left the scene.
The court affidavit states that shortly before the shooting, an occupant at the trailer court said a dark-colored car, possible a Ford Taurus, drove by her trailer going north toward Lot 40. The occupant believed there were two males in the front and one in the back of the car, a short time later the occupant then saw a white male wearing a red baseball hat with whits intertwined letters shooting a handgun into Lot 40.
A second witness at the trailer court said a white male wearing baggy blue jeans and a light colored T-shirt fire numerous shots from a dark handgun into the trailer at Lot 40. The male then ran east and got into the rear passenter seat of a dark-colored Ford Taurus that was parked in the east driveway of Winding Brook. The Taurus took off heading south.
Deputies stated that several minutes later while en route to Winding Brook, a deputy observed a dark-colored Ford Taurus traveling east on U.S. 30/11th Street, DeWitt, near the U.S.. 61 overpass. The Taurus pulled into the parking kot at Casey's General Store on 11th Street in DeWitt. When deputies arrived the vehicle was parked in front of the store, unoccupied with the engine runing.
