Symphony of Lights to begin Thanksgiving

CLINTON — Eagle Point Park will be aglow with the Symphony of Lights display starting on Thanksgiving.

The light display will be up and running throughout the holiday season through Dec. 30 with numerous special events in between.

“Set up has gone great so far, despite a shorter timeline to do so everything is on schedule,” Marketing Chairman Jason Balinski said. “A large amount of the old lights have been changed out with more efficient brighter ones to enhance everyone's enjoyment of the displays.”

Symphony of Lights runs 6 to 9 p.m. and costs $7 per car up to 10 people and $2 per person for vehicles of more than 10 people.

A family walk will be held on Nov. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m., kicking off the Symphony of Lights season. This is the only opportunity to enjoy the enchanting 1.1 mile view of the displays on foot and at a leisurely pace.  Strollers are welcome, but attendees are asked to leave their pets at home.

Free refreshments will be available in the lodge. Cost for adult registration is $15 and includes a long-sleeved T-shirt. The cost for children’s registration (ages 6-12) is $5 and does not include a T-shirt. Children younger than 6 get in free.

 Due to limited parking within the park, participants are asked to park at the Lyons Train Depot at 56 25th Ave. North and use the shuttle bus service to get to the park. Buses will run from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Only vehicles with handicap permits will be allowed within the park.

 On Nov. 24 runners can take in the unique displays during the 5K run at 4 p.m. The gates open at 2:30 p.m. and the course will be entirely within Eagle Point Park on approximately two miles of rolling paved park roads. One mile of the race passes by more than 40 major displays and more than 500,000 lights. The second mile winds through the most northern loop of the park, which overlooks Lake Clinton on the Mississippi River. These views provide a truly unique running experience, organizers say.

The cost for registration is $15 and includes a long-sleeved T-shirt. Free refreshments will be available after the race in the lodge. Age divisions are 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54 and 55+.

Prizes will go to overall male/female finishers, masters award for top male/female finishers 40+, grandmaster award for top male/female finishers 55+, and the top three runners in each age group.

Race day number and T-shirt pickup/registration is at the lodge at Eagle Point Park from 2:30 – 3:45 p.m.  Early packet pickup will be today from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Lyons Train Depot located at 56 25th Ave. North, Clinton, or at the Depot during the Family Walk on Nov. 21 from 6 – 9 p.m.   

Other events include a free craft show  from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 1 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will visit Dec. 2, 9 and 16 during operational hours. Jingle Bell Jam will take place on Dec. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $10 per person to enter Eagle Point Park and it includes food tastings, a drive through Symphony of Lights, holiday shopping in a festive atmosphere and hosted refreshments.
