WHITESIDE COUNTY —
Two men were pulled from the water this morning after falling off a barge they were working on in a Mississippi River harbor.
Fulton, Ill., Police Chief Jim Rhoades said the two men were putting tops on a barge in the harbor, located in rural Whiteside County, when they fell into the water. The Fulton Fire Department was dispatched to the scene around 8:15 a.m.
The men spent about 20 minutes in the chilly water before being pulled out by emergency responders. They were transported by ambulance to a Clinton hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
Clinton Fire Department Battalion Chief Creighton Regenwether said Clinton was called upon to deploy a rescue boat for assistance, but was called off before reaching the scene.
