CLINTON —
U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa, bid farewell to his former constituents Monday in preparation for his transition to represent the newly drawn First Congressional District.
The Democratic congressman has represented Clinton and Scott counties for six years, but they were mov-ed to the Sec-ond Con-gressional District, now represented by Rep. Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa, during redistricting.
Braley, who won his fourth term in November, spoke to students, staff and faculty of Clinton Community College about higher education, legislative and public policy issues during his last visit to the district.
“Coming here today reinforced why I am so privileged to have the job I have,” Braley said.
He shared his commitment to the important issues facing Clinton County even as he steps into the role of representing the new First District.
He also expressed confidence in Loebsack, who will officially begin representing the district in January.
“Dave is a good friend of mine. He has a good understanding of the issues in the county and along the Route 30 corridor. He knows that issues affecting Eastern Iowa have an affect on the rest of Iowa,” Braley said. “I’m going to work with him and his staff during the transition so it’s seamless.
