CLINTON —
With phase one of the DeWitt annex project nearing completion, the Clinton County Board of Supervisors are working on plans for the second phase.
County Maintenance Director Corey Johnson on Wednesday informed the board that the project is running on schedule for its December deadline.
All interior walls are up, electrical conduit is in building and the doors are framed in.
He hopes to have sheet rock up by the end of next week and have the flooring company come in the week after Thanksgiving.
One issue that has occurred concerns a hole found in the heat exchanger in one of the roof-top units. Johnson and IIW Representative Mike Ruden explained to the board that the issue needs to be handled quickly. However, they also wanted to make sure the board considers how this could affect plans to replace mechanical units in phase two of the project. Ruden said they may not want to spend $1,800 repairing the unit to turn around and replace it. However they also had to make sure if they replaced it now, that it fit in with plans for the mechanical units.
“If we’re going to spend your dollars wisely over the long run, we would want this thing designed so you’re not throwing anything away,” Ruben said.
Ruben recommended they spend $4,500 to have the unit evaluated and for a design to decide what to do. The board will vote Monday on a resolution to authorize Arnold & O’Sheridan Consulting Engineers to perform engineering services on the mechanical unit for phase one.
The board also discussed what projects need to go into phase two. The major issues include the roof, mechanical units, the northwest corner, the treasurer’s office, a meeting room and a handicap ramp. The board also discussed space for the Information Technology department.
Supervisor Jill Davisson expressed feelings that the community needs a meeting hall.
County Treasurer Rhonda McIntyre wanted to make sure that her staff had a second way out of the building.
Johnson spoke about some work that needs to be done in the parking lot. He said they will need to dig up the lot, re-gravel and re-lay the black top.
“So the second phase is going to be the expensive phase, is what you’re telling us,” Davisson said.
Currently, the schedule for the project is to have phase one done and the Sheriff’s Office in by the end of this year. Phase two is planned to be done by the end of 2013 and phase three will be done by the end of 2014. Phase three will include the zoning offices and the exterior facades.
Monday’s meeting will be held at 9:15 a.m. at Lincolnway Villa Assisted Living, 320 E. Lincoln Way, Wheatland.
The board is trying to hold a meeting in another Clinton County community at least once every quarter to allow those in the county to attend.
