CLINTON —
The Clinton County Board of Supervisors has appointed a new leader.
John Staszewski was selected Wednesday to lead the board as its chairman.
“You did a really good job. You stepped up to the plate and I know you’ve put in lots of hours,” Supervisor Jill Davisson said to Supervisor Brian Schmidt, who served as chairman in 2012. Schmidt thanked everyone for their patience and assistance during the past year.
Typically, the board rotates the position between the three supervisors. Staszewski served as chairman in 2011, putting Davisson as the person next in line to serve. However, due to health issues with her husband, Davisson preferred not to serve as chairman this year. She instead nominated Staszewski. She also thanked the staff and the supervisors for help during this difficult time.
“I have truly appreciated this year and especially with all of the health issues my husband has, you two have said, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ And that’s pretty nice,” Davisson said.
Staszewski appointed Davisson as vice chairwoman.
The board moved forward in their annual resolutions. The Observer and Clinton Herald were designated as the official newspapers for publication of board proceedings. The county’s reimbursement rate for mileage for 2013 was set at $.565, as per the Internal Revenue Service. The board authorized the county auditor to issue checks on various funds when the board is not in session. Deductions from payroll have been authorized for the purpose of United States savings bonds, annuities, life insurance, flex plans, union dues, United Fund, family dental coverage and credit unions.
The board also authorized the county engineer to temporarily close sections of roadway and erect “road closed” signs as needed for construction or emergencies. The board approved a resolution to empower the board to execute the transfer of funds from the Secondary Road Farm to Market fund to the Iowa Department of Transportation in payment for services. The county engineer was also authorized to execute the certification of completion of work and the final acceptance thereof in accordance with plans and specifications for any Farm to Market and federal or state-aid projects in the county.
