CLINTON —
Plans for a bioreactor at the Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency have been delayed.
CCASWA Director Brad Seward said Friday that cold, wetness and snow are preventing work on the bioreactor. He confirmed that it has been stuck since Labor Day.
Heavy machinery is needed to get the bioreactor turning again. Seward said the CCASWA has received a proposal from Seeser Storage Systems, Inc., but a vote has not been held on it.
During a December meeting of the CCASWA, the board discussed shutting down the bioreactor. The reactor costs approximately $57,000 to use and approximately $15,000 whenever it breaks down, according to Site Engineer C.J. Lage. The board considered other options, such as partnering up for yard waste disposal with a facility, like the one in Scott County.
The board approved sending a letter to request an extension on the decision of what to do with the bioreactor at the December meeting. Seward said the extension was granted until April.
