CLINTON —
The Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency held some regular beginning-of-the-year business at Thursday’s meeting.
CCASWA Director Brad Seward said Friday that last year’s board officers were retained. Dave Richards, of Goose Lake, remained chairman. Doug Goodall, of Delmar, is vice chairman, and Lori Jahn, of Charlotte, remains treasurer and secretary.
Seward also gave reports on 2012 calendar year usage figures. He confirmed that figures had decreased during the year. Landfill tonnage was just a little more than 27,000 tons. Seward said this is a decrease from the approximately 28,000 tons in the 2011 calendar year.
Usage also is down for the 2012 appliance demanufacturing figures. Seward said numbers went from approximately 700 appliances in 2011 to 500 in 2012. At one time, the agency saw approximately 900 appliances, Seward said.
He added that he does not know if the reason for the decrease was due to people getting rid of the items illegally, or because the appliances last longer.
Seward said he did notice the appliance demanufacturing figures picked up in the second half of the year. He thought this might be due to the change in the rate for refrigerant items. Refrigerant items cost $19, instead of the $9 for non-refrigerant items. Seward said there is no difference in the rate for a stove or a freezer.
