Humane Society rehires administrator
CLINTON — Clinton Humane Society board member Tamara Olsen announced Wednesday that Jean Regenwether has returned as the shelter's administrator after Natalie Ehm stepped down from that position following a “mutual decision.”
“The board is thrilled that Jean is the administrator,” Olsen said. “She is highly qualified and experienced.”
Regenwether served as the shelter’s administrator for several years until being let go by the society’s previous board in October 2006.
“I received a phone call wanting to know if I would be interested in being the administrator of the Humane Society,” Regenwether said of her reinstatement. “I’m very excited, and I’m honored to be asked to be administrator of this great facility.”
Regenwether hopes the organization can return to business as usual, and has many plans in store.
“I would like to see our shelter reach the potential of the humane society of the future,” Regenwether said.
Some of her initial goals include adding kitty condos, brightening up the kennel area by painting and adding new lighting, and she hopes to eventually increase the shelter’s number of dog runs and add long-term living quarters. She is also asking members of the community to help with donations of small to large breed dog food and dog toys, especially heavy-duty items for the larger breeds.
Regenwether is also excited about getting the volunteer program up and running again, and increasing involvement in one of her favorite projects the community education program. She is also very excited that Mary James has returned to the shelter as a volunteer rescue coordinator.
Olsen noted that things are already beginning to look up, with Regenwether’s first day on the job bringing a donation to the shelter from Clinton residents Jim and Juanita Byrns in the amount of $100,000, and a man waiting at the shelter door as soon as it opened at 10:30 a.m. to reclaim his dog.
“The dog’s name was Lucky,” Olsen said. “We just knew it was going to be a great day.”
Regenwether is also optimistic.
“I love this shelter,” Regenwether said. “We have a positive future, and a lot of exciting ideas.”
