ALBANY, Ill. —
A Friday morning fire in Albany was more smoke than fire.
Mutual aid from Fulton, Erie and Cordova, Ill., was requested and then cancelled by the Albany Fire Protection District.
Albany Fire Chief Leo Geerts said they asked for mutual aid simply because it was a fire reported outside of city limits. However, once Albany fire crews arrived at the scene and found a small kitchen fire with smoke, the mutual aid was cancelled.
No one was injured and there was minimal damage in the fire, which started at approximately 8:45 a.m. Geerts said the fire case centered around utensils on a table in the kitchen.
Firefighters knocked down the fire quickly. Geerts confirmed that the fire was caused by smoking materials.
