Trees, power lines down in wake of storm

CLINTON — A severe thunderstorm ripped through the Clinton area Saturday afternoon, in its path leaving downed trees, power outages and a slew of damage and debris.

The storm hit Clinton shortly before 2 p.m., and produced strong winds powerful enough to take down entire trees and power lines, a downpour of rain as well as thunder and lightning.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Office confirmed trees and power lines were down across the county as a result of the storm. Alliant Energy estimated more than 6,000 customers in Clinton County alone initially were without power. Reports of power loss are occurring in nearby Fulton, Ill., as well.

Emergency crews are currently working to repair damage.
