CLINTON — State Rep. Mike Boland will not run for a ninth term in the Illinois House but will seek a different venue of public service.
The East Moline Democrat has been rumored to run for the vacant Lieutenant Governor seat, formerly held by Gov. Pat Quinn, but has made no official announcement. He said he would make an announcement in a few weeks.
“These are great people that I have enjoyed working for, and still care for, so hopefully someone will come forward who is compassionate, and yet reform-minded and not just a machine type,” Boland said.
Boland said in a release he has not decided whether he will endorse a replacement in the February primary election.
Those lining up to replace Boland in the Democratic primary include Jerry Lack of East Moline and Porter McNeil of Moline, both circulating petitions. Rock Island County board member Rich Morthland has announced his intentions to run as a Republican in the general election.
