Another prison hearing set
CHICAGO - A panel of Illinois lawmakers could make a decision after another hearing is held in Chicago on Jan. 6 about the Obama administration's plan to purchase the Thomson, Ill., prison.
According to a news release from the Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability today, the panel will hold a second public hearing at the James R. Thomson center to hear more output from residents and answer questions.
Although a decision is not imminent, the release stated that a vote could be taken after the hearing. Any decision made by the committee would not be binding on Gov. Pat Quinn.
The second hearing comes one week after a hearing in Sterling, Ill., that drew hundreds of opponents and harsh questions from Republicans.
