CLINTON —
With documents guaranteeing funding in hand, the Clinton School Board on Monday agreed to put the high school field turf project out for bid.
Clinton High School activities director Gary Lueders, River Kings and Queens Athletic Booster Club President Dick Farwell and booster club spokesman Tim Hartsock attended the meeting Monday to answer questions about the more than $1.26 million project, which is projected to begin after the final home track meet in April 2013.
“We’re going to shoot for an Aug. 1 completion date. We need 90 working days,” Lueders said. “The idea is to finish by the first of August, we’ll have band camp on there, we’ll have football camp on there. The first football game will be Aug. 30.”
Football, however, won’t be the only activity to use the new field.
“Our intent is it will be a multipurpose field. Our P.E. kids will be on it, the band will be on it...we’ll play all of our football games on there, soccer will move back from Ashford,” Lueders said.
The board was presented with a letter from Gateway State Bank stating it will serve as the lead bank and work with Citizens First Bank to provide an $800,000 construction/end loan for the project. According to Hartsock, the booster club has already raised between $500,000 and $600,000. As another caveat of the agreement, the booster club will need to provide a letter of intent of reimbursement to the school district.
Before leaving, Farwell thanked the board for approving the construction documents and putting the project out for bid.
“It’s been a culmination of about 40 years for me and I really appreciate it,” Farwell said.
